West Springfield Massachusetts - Stories Carved in Stone
by Rusty Clark is a fascinating collection of tales based on
Colonial headstones found in the picturesque cemeteries of West
Springfield, Massachusetts. The book features information on
early New England gravestone carvers, and includes over two
hundred  photos and illustrations, with over one hundred
photographs of this Yankee folk art. It also contains historical
and genealogical information about the pioneers who settled in
the Connecticut River Valley. Take this field guide along as you
visit these ancient burial grounds. With a map of each cemetery
included, it'll be like a treasure hunt.

It contains an extensive index of local family names and places.

                                                                         Testimonials

Bill Whitney of West Springfield says: After 50 years as a newspaper reporter/editor and a lifetime lover of things
historical, I can only say that "Stories Carved In Stone" is among the best reads I have ever enjoyed. The writing
is excellent; as are the layout and design, and the effort that went into the research and production is obvious
throughout...no stone [is left] unturned.

Pat Cahill says: ...a fascinating little book called "Stories Carved In Stone"...gives a peek into the past by
examining tombstones in five venerable cemeteries...is crammed with photographs, maps, vintage engravings, a
lively text on local history and funerary art, and quirky detours...the gravestones...come to life with stories of
war and peace, wealth and the poor house, humor and heroism..

Ellen Dodson of Rochester, New York says: I wonder how people in the future will see what we are living now.
I hope there will be another Rusty Clark to tell our story. You will love Rusty's book if you're into genealogy  or
just have a curiosity for old graveyards! I'm sure I will read it over and over! It has history...it has a touch of
humor...it has facts...and stories...all wrapped up in this one book! If you are interested in books like this...give
it a read!

Mary Vileta of Old Bones says: You really bring people to life in Stories Carved in Stone. I like it!

Betty Ralph of Huntsville, Alabama says: Enjoying your book so much! Amazed at...the black and white
photos...Found myself wanting to reach out and touch them...You presented everything so well - even those
without a passion for history should enjoy reading it.
